The founders of a local nonprofit that formed after the 2018 Mendocino Complex fires are getting ready to kick off a small business incubation program that will award thousands of dollars to five finalists in Lake County with promising ideas.
Hand Up Lake County is a contest modeled after the television show Shark Tank and projects like Startup Mendocino, which provide seed money and training to small business owners and entrepreneurs in a competitive format, where judges and an audience ultimately decide who wins.

Peter and Maryann Schmid, owners of The Lodge at Blue Lakes, hosted a community Meeting Tuesday attended by local non-profit and business leaders, government officials, friends and neighbors and representatives from various agencies like the Small Business Administration in an effort to brainstorm and strategize recovery efforts following the history making fires and emergencies which have plagued Lake County over the past few years, including the recent Mendocino Complex fire.
The meeting was moderated by Lake County Chamber CEO Melissa Fulton.
