‘Hands Up Lake County’ To Give Away Prizes

A $10,000 sponsorship from the City of Clearlake tops the list of sponsors putting up cash to support Lake County startups and small businesses competing in the first of its kind business opportunity. “Hands Up Lake County,” inspired by “Shark Tank,” the popular reality TV show where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors, the project of the newly
formed nonprofit 1 Team 1 Dream, takes a more homespun approach, guaranteeing a one-time cash award and ongoing mentorship to support the winning businesses.

Non-profit offers "Hands Up" to Lake County business owners

The founders of a local nonprofit that formed after the 2018 Mendocino Complex fires are getting ready to kick off a small business incubation program that will award thousands of dollars to five finalists in Lake County with promising ideas.

Hand Up Lake County is a contest modeled after the television show Shark Tank and projects like Startup Mendocino, which provide seed money and training to small business owners and entrepreneurs in a competitive format, where judges and an audience ultimately decide who wins.

Peter and Maryann Schmid, owners of The Lodge at Blue Lakes, hosted a community Meeting Tuesday attended by local non-profit and business leaders, government officials, friends and neighbors and representatives from various agencies like the Small Business Administration in an effort to brainstorm and strategize recovery efforts following the history making fires and emergencies which have plagued Lake County over the past few years, including the recent Mendocino Complex fire.

The meeting was moderated by Lake County Chamber CEO Melissa Fulton.
